This is a standalone microvania adventure, but it is additionally a showcase demo for the currently in-development full game, "Rat Trap".

The "Fuse 'em Demo" contains completely unique level design and progression from that seen in the main game, so there will be no story or map spoilers here.

You will find somewhere between 30 minutes to 80 minutes of gameplay in this demo depending on how much you hunt for secrets.

A personal note:

Thank you so much for checking out Rat Trap!

This is a dream project of mine, and my first real released game. I would love to hear your feedback on the game, good, bad or ugly, on the Rat Trap Discord.
If you aren't a discord user, please share your feedback in the comments below.

If you've enjoyed this demo, please consider adding Rat Trap to your steam wishlist, sharing your completion times on the discord server or even making a donation (although not required!) as it all helps me & the game greatly.

The full games' development / release is not a certainty just yet, but with your help we can hopefully make it a reality.

Happy escaping!

Hey thanks for playing!
Appreciate ya making a vid of you trying it out too 👍

did you remove the linux executable?

Hey I'm really sorry; but it turns out the Linux build did not work 😞
I'm working from a Windows machine only, so unfortunately it's quite hard to troubleshoot these Linux builds which are honestly new to me.

If I come up with a solution/working Linux build, I'll be sure to upload it here and reply to this comment for visibility

EDIT: Same issue with the mac version. My apologies for the moment

Hello! A linux executable has now been uploaded; alongside an update to the demo addressing some bugs.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your patience 🙏

That's really awesome thanks!

Great job! Movement feels great. Lots of polish already. Unique idea and I can totally see the potential for the full game.

Some puzzles definitely went over my head, but I’m sure in a full length game I will be able to learn and recognize each ability and its use when I can adjust at a slower pace.

I guess some more tutorials / learning would be appreciated (like that puzzle labeled “optional” - no idea where to start.)

Hey thanks so much for the feedback and for getting through the demo!

There are a LOT of things the player learns throughout this demo, so you may have noticed that I tried to keep tutorials quite sparse when I could.
But this approach certainly also has it's downsides, as I think you're quite right in suggesting the pace and cognitive load demanded from the player is pretty high throughout.

In the full release, there would be so much more time and space to play around with each character, mechanic and ability so the learning curve isn't quite so steep.
So I 100% agree with you!

And the optional puzzle is certainly a tough one!

yeah makes total sense! Well I absolutely wishlisted and can't wait for updates

A very polished and fun experience, a definite worthwhile play!
I'm very excited for the full product and any development news.
I will note that later on, the game's FPS and performance starts to drop significantly, I'm not sure why.

5.1/5.

Best of luck, Rouser! cheers.

Hey thanks a bunch for playing and for your kind words!

Bummed to hear about the performance drop though, I can't apologise enough about that. If you remember, did this happen at any specific point in time? (when you unlocked another character for example?)

I will certainly look into it!

It was more of a general slow worsening of performance than any one thing.

Cheers for your help! I have some suspicions of the root cause and will look into updating the demo to resolve ASAP :)

A brilliant demo, featuring outstanding level design and innovative gameplay!

Such a kind comment! Thanks so much for playing
